Olive oil has always been a staple in my house. We used it for everything from bread dipping and recipes, a good olive oil can make any dish more flavorful. Olive oil has been a highlight of mainstream cooking for a while since the initials EVOO were coined and used in the everyday household. EVOO, also known as Extra Virgin Olive Oil for those novices, is an oil that comes from the European olive and is made from pressing the olive without heat and chemicals.
Pretty neat huh? I actually never knew how Olive Oil was made but that actually makes the oil even more unique. The overall process is quite involved but the result is the flavorful, low acidic, and versatile oil that can used in the everyday kitchen.
The Flavor Your Life campaign is designated to keep consumers informed about European based EVOO, focusing primarily on us, North America. There is so much that goes into a bottle of Olive Oil that we do not know and since Europe has so many different flavors of Olive Oil to choose from they want us to know our options. There is quite a science when it comes to soil, harvest times, and temperature for example that an informed consumer would want to know.
Some tidbits to know: Olives harvested to early are bitter in taste while olives harvested later in the season are more mild in flavor. Spanish olives give a nuttier flavor while Italian olives are more herbal in flavor. French olives produce a milder flavor while Greek olives are a strong flavor.
Who new there was so much to know about Olive Oil? Well, Flavor Your Life is a mission to make sure that you do know all about European Olives and the oil they can produce. Check out Flavor Your Life here on Facebook, twitter, and their website to learn more. This is a really cool campaign and even the most informed foodie can learn something.
A treat to get you using Olive Oil: My families favorite Baked Green Bean Recipe! It’s super simple and the flavor depends a lot of the Olive Oil that you choose for your dish.
2 cups Fresh Green Beans, ends snipped
3 Tbsp Olive Oil
1 Tbsp Italian Seasonings
Sprinkle of Parmesan Cheese
Preheat Oven to 425 degrees. In large mixing bowl combine Green Beans, Olive Oil, and Seasonings. Once all beans are coated spread out evenly on baking sheet. Sprinkle beans with Parmesan cheese (a grated version works well) and place tray in oven for 20-25 minutes. Remove from oven and enjoy.
The Olive Oil I used for this post and recipe is Zucchi Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Zucchi is a 200 year old company that produces a very high quality Olive Oil, usually a blend of various flavors. Find out more on their website here.
